For me, artist residencies are a time to focus on my art practice. It is usually a new place so I can leave some of my concerns and distractions behind and explore new influences and ideas. A new place means new landscapes, weather, people, ideas, attitudes and more. It is a new frame to view the world through and it always comes out in my artwork. One of the artist residencies that most influenced my creative process was with Drawinternational in Caylus, France. I found the ancient limestone landscape captivating and it slowly transformed my drawing over the month I was there. The effects of that experience are still present in my work.
