MEMORIES of SUMMER

I had a great summer… I didn’t paint much but did lots of sketchbook drawing. My adventures with close friends and family in beautiful places made it easy to gather ideas.

My photos and sketchbook impressions will feed my painting this fall… I have shared a few below.

Sketchbook work is so convenient. You can to do it anywhere…on the beach or hotel room.

Let me introduce you to a very interesting artist I talked to this summer…..

ALEXANDRA GOODALL

While in the Okanagan this summer, I had several long conversations with Alexandra Goodall, who is a contemporary fabric artist. Her abstract, organic sculptures are made from felted wool. Her recent work reminds me of the ancient invertebrates called tunicates.

Alexandra is currently working on a brilliant collaborative exhibition, ‘Migration Parade’. This multimedia installation includes her sculptures combined with the work of Danielle Savage (a sound artist) and Charlie Prince who does dance and choreography. Follow the links in the artists’ names above and be inspired… as I was!

The first exhibition of this installation will be at the Penticton Art Gallery in March 2022. See photos below of Alexandra’s sculptures and go to her website to see her creative process and other details.

When I saw Alexandra’s work, I immediately felt a connection to my own drawing. I told her that she creates the forms that live in my imagination and come out the end of my pencil.

So, I did several drawings in response to Alexandra’s Sculpture. I will definitely do more that I will post on Instagram this fall.
